About Us - The Directors

Heather Hibbeler, Director
Heather Hibbeler is a graduate of UCLA, with a B.A. in Sociology and an emphasis in Social Psychology. She is a former Program Instructor at Dave Rabb's Childrens' Fitness Center, delivering sports, fitness and gymnastics skills to young children. She came to Sierra Adventure Camps in 1994 with extensive knowledge of outdoor skills and aquatics sports. She is a member of the American Camp Association (ACA) and has served as the Southern California Vice-President of the Western Association of Independent Camps (WAIC).

Amy Lidell, Program Director
Amy Lidell was a psychobiology major at UCLA, where she was a member of the UCLA Rowing Team for three years. She is an avid wakeboarder, backpacker, and outdoors-person, who has worked for Nawa Academy, an adventure-based summer school helping learning-challenged students. She is also a certified Emergency Medical Technician. Amy has been with Sierra Adventure Camps since 2001 as a group leader and Program Director.



Kent D. Newell, Founding Director
The Founder and Director, Kent D. Newell was employed by the UCLA Fernald School for 14 years, where he was Supervisor of Physical Education for 10 years. He is the founder and former director of Camp Cornell for Boys, the Motor Performance Skills Program, and has been a youth camp director since 1962.
